CMA EXECUTIVE RECRUITERS
CHEMICAL JOBS WILL COME TO YOU WHEN YOU
CREATE A POWER RESUME THAT GETS ATTENTION
1.
State
your name, address, home, work/cell phone numbers, and email
address.
2.
State
a simple, general objective. Being too specific will limit who will
consider you.
3.
Work
experience
a.
List in reverse chronological order.
b.
State the company, city and state, and years worked there.
c.
In a short (1 line) sentence state what the company makes and the
chemical process.
d.
State your Job title, if it is too company specific that people
outside your company will not understand, substitute a generic
title.
e.
Use short statement bullet points, not long paragraphs
*
f.
List your Duties and Accomplishments* specific to the job title and
date of the job.
When applying for a
job read the Job Description and use the same words (buzz words)
in your resume. For instance if the JD says “Supervise” do not
write “Manage”.
*Do not just list
duties. State accomplishments using strong specific action
words.
The word “Worked” for instance is weak and overused.
Use collaborated, led, functioned, or solved instead.
g.
Start your bullets with a power action verb, for instance:
accelerated created framed
launched presented
accomplished designed
grew led
saved
achieved developed generated
managed simplified
applied devised handled
negotiated spearheaded
attained directed implemented
operated specified
built drafted improved
outlined streamlined
caused eliminated increased
oversaw supervised
collaborated established initiated performed
tracked
cooperated expanded introduced
planned upgraded
constructed formulated invented
prepared
wrote
h.
End your bullets with quantifiable results, for instance:
”Improved overall plant profit by 5%/yr”, “Reduced consumption by
80%”, “Saved $120,000 in annual operating costs”, “Decreased process
cycle time by 14%, saving $100 M/yr.”, etc.
*** (If you do not state results/accomplishments, how will a
potential employer know you can really help him/her?) ***
*Ask
yourself the question
“So what?” after
every line in your resume.
For example you write:
Supervised 2 engineers, 10 mechanics, and 2 instrument technicians.
(So What?)
Instead say:
Supervised 2 engineers, 10 mechanics, and 2 instrument technicians
with no absenteeism.
(Answers the question)
4.
Education
a.
Degree
b.
School attended
c.
Year graduated
d.
If graduated within the past 5 years, give GPA.
5.
List
any supplemental training, certifications, or licenses.
6.
List
any special skills, for instance: Computer or Software Skills.
7.
List
any professional memberships and/or awards.
8.
Resume should be no longer than two (2) pages.
